The New?Orleans native and baseball great known as ?Le Grand Orange? is about to be a baseball Hall of Famer in the town that gave him that French nickname.?
Montreal Expo great Rusty Staub will be inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame on Saturday.
Staub, 68, was traded to the Expos in 1969, for their inaugural season, after a standout start with the Houston Astros.
Although he spent just under four seasons of his 23-year career there, he is still a beloved figure north of the border.
?I would go on to play nine years with the New York Mets, so that?s my team, Staub told the Daily Globe and Mail.?
?But I always tell people that when I die and they do an autopsy, they?ll find a little part of my heart that still has that MTL on it.?
Fans in Montreal gave him the French nickname that has stuck with him through life because of his red hair.
Staub, a Jesuit High School graduate, now lives in West Palm Beach, Fla., and remains very involved with charitable causes there, in New York and in his hometown.
