?We'll be able to grow a lot more on Epping Road. We are bursting at the seams now,? said Mike Lampert.
Al's Auto has been and continues to be a family run business, Al Lampert owned the business until last year when his son, Mike, took over. Al's Auto has been a member of the Exeter Area Chamber of Commerce for many years and remains well known in the community.
Jewett Automotive Design & Construction, which is based in Raymond, has contracted with Al's Automotive to renovate its new facility.
The facility was previously used as a Chevrolet car dealership. The project includes the demolition of interior offices and service bays to accommodate a new, upgraded floor plan consisting of new office space, service bays, wash bay, and storage areas.
The Exeter Area Chamber of Commerce said the move is not only beneficial for Al's Automotive but for the town as well. Their move will free up more space for businesses; creating jobs, increasing the tax base and possibly helping the perceived parking issue in town, said Chamber President Mike Schidlovsky.
?This is the kind of activity we look for, and Al's has been outstanding with town cooperation and citizenship,? Schidlovsky said.
Schidlovsky said Al's move will open up more possibilities for development and bring attention to the Epping Road business district.
?It is a priority area for development opportunity and they will establish an anchor business to the area,? he said.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held July 26 with Chamber staff and other supporters.
?We're grateful that a business like Al's, who has been around Exeter for so long, has found an in-town location suitable for their business,? said Town Manager Russ Dean.
With many heavy towing jobs Al's will benefit from the move to Epping Road because the close proximity to Route 101, Mike Lampert said. It's a ?perfect fit,? he said.
?We'll be able to serve customers better at the new location and the property is what we were looking for,? he said.
Al's Automotive and Truck Service Center offers foreign and domestic car, truck and bus repairs. Heavy or light towing service is offered 24 hours, seven days a week. The shop located at 20 Franklin St. is open Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is closed on the weekends.
